Counterfeit perfume is common and some fakes look very close to the real thing. No single sign is conclusive, but checking several together gives a clear picture. The most reliable protection is buying from a trusted seller.

What to Check

  • Box and cellophane: sharp printing, even colours, clean edges and tight, smooth wrapping. Testers often come in plain boxes, which is normal.
  • Batch code: the code on the box and on the bottle should match. It shows both come from one production run but is not proof on its own.
  • Bottle and cap: thick, even glass, a precisely fitted cap and a clear engraved logo.
  • Sprayer: a fine, even mist rather than drops or uneven spray.
  • Liquid: the right colour, clear, with no sediment.
  • Scent: a harsh alcohol opening, a flat scent that never changes and rapid fading are warning signs.
  • Price: a price far below the market is a red flag.
  • Seller: the most important factor; a trusted shop has a clear supply source and an authenticity guarantee.

If you are unsure about a scent, try a sample first. These rules apply to designer and niche perfumes alike.
